(1) my story.
Good afternoon church.
I'm Jay, from Korea,
for sharing the Gospel with you.
Jesus is God, my Savior, and my Lord.
By God's grace,
I began to believe Him,
since I was teenages.
(2) since believing in Jesus.
After I believed in Jesus,
many things have changed.
The way I speak, think, talk, and everything......
just everything.
...My whole life has changed.
The biggest change was that
I read the Bible every day
and prayed every day.
And..
been able to become more obedient
in believing,
Jesus is my Savior.
(3) Introduction to the lesson
Now, in this lesson,
we're gonna talk about
what kind of life you should live
after believed Jesus.
2. obedience.
(1) We are Christ's soldiers.
Korean men
serve in the army for about two years in their early 20s.
I also went to the army.
A soldier job is the obedient,
to obey the commander's orders.
Interestingly,
the Bible says
we are Christ's soldiers.
Suffer with me
as a good soldier of Christ Jesus;
for no one
who serves as a soldier is
bound by his own life,
for he wants to please the one
who recruited him
(2 Timothy 2:3-4).
We obey Christ
as our commander.
That's our Job in the faith life.
(2) According to the Apostle Paul, the life of a believer is a life of obedience.
You know the apostle Paul,
He says "obedience" is the purpose of our lives.
(Romans 1:5)
Through him
and for the sake of his name's sake,
we received
grace and apostleship
to call people
from among all the Gentiles
to the obedience
that comes from faith.
(Romans 1:5).
The Gentiles, spoken of here are
those who are not Jews.
We are not Jews.
The purpose of
the apostle Paul's ministry was
for us to "obey" Jesus.
the obedience!
This is the heart of our lives.
3. The obedience to the gospel.
(1) What do we obey?
The object of our obedience
is
the Word of God,
the Bible!
To obey the Bible is
our way to live.
(2) So what is the content of the Bible?
The core of what we believe in the Bible
is the following
five things:
① Jesus Christ,
② The Cross,
③ The Resurrection,
④ The Holy Spirit,
⑤ The Second Coming of Jesus.
Let's take a look at them one by one.
① Jesus Christ
- The word "Christ" means "savior".
In other words, Jesus is my savior.
We obey to the Word, "Jesus is my savior!"
② The Cross
- How did He save us?
He saved us by dying on the cross.
He was crucified for us on the cross.
We obey to the Word,
"He saved us on the cross!"
Why did He crucified on the cross?
To pay the penalty for my sins.
Therefore,
there is now
no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus,
because through Christ Jesus
the law of the Spirit of life
set me free
from the law
of sin and death.
(Romans 8:12)
I obey to the Word,
He paid the penalty for my sins.
He died in my place for my sins.
And it moved me from sin and death to the Spirit of life.
He set us free!
③ Resurrection
- Jesus rose from the dead
3 days after He died on the cross.
I obey to the Word,
Jesus rose from the dead!
④ The Holy Spirit
- The resurrected Jesus sends the Holy Spirit as a gift to believers.
...Repent and be baptized,
every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 2:38).
We obey to the Word,
He sent me the Spirit
as a gift!
⑤ Second Coming
- We believe
in the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead
and walk with the Holy Spirit.
In doing so,
we live in the faith of Jesus' return.
We obey to the Word,
His second coming!
These five things are
the core of
what the Bible says
that we believe and obey.
Say it with me.
"Jesus Christ, the cross, the resurrection,
the Holy Spirit, the second coming"
again.
again.
again.
If five is too many for you,
you can reduce it to 1 word.
It's
"the Gospel"
(Gospel means good news)
Why is it
the "Good News" to us
that Jesus Christ,
died for me, rose from the dead,
sent the Holy Spirit,
and is coming back?
Because.....
it gives me,
eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God
is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 6:23).
If we could boil this Book down to one word,
it's the "Gospel."
In other words,
the centerpiece of our faith is
believing the Gospel and
Obeying it.
4. How will you obey?
Aha! I see!
The life of faith is
a life of Believing and Obeying the Bible!
The core content of the Bible is the Gospel,
"Jesus Christ the cross, the resurrection,
and the second coming"!
I believe and obey the Gospel!
After listening to this,
I have one last question.
how do we go
about believing and obeying the gospel?
Let me tell you two things.
(1) Believe with your heart, confess with your mouth.
That if you confess with your mouth,
"Jesus is Lord,"
and believe in your heart that
God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that
you believe and are justified,
and it is with your mouth
that you confess and are saved.
(Romans 10:9-10)
We must believe in our hearts
and confess with our mouths
every day
that "Jesus is my Christ, Savior."
My heart must be filled with
the knowledge that Jesus is
the Christ
every day.
We can do this through prayer,
reading the Bible,
to worship Him together,
and witnessing Jesus
before your Neighbors.
(2) Self-denial and self-crucifixion
Then he called the crowd to him along
with his disciples and said:
"If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself
and take up his cross
and follow me
(Mark 8:34).
Self-denial is
saying "no" to me
saying "no" to my thoughts
or my behaviors
that are
not in a line with the Bible.
"Taking up my cross"
also means
taking on the challenges that
come with believing
and following the Gospel.
5. The purpose of the apostle Paul's ministry is our obedience.
In the Bible,
the "apostle" means,
someone who was sent by Jesus.
Here's how the Bible describes
the purpose of an "apostle's" ministry
Through him and for his name's sake,
we received grace and apostleship
to call people from among
all the Gentiles
to the obedience that comes from faith.
(Romans 1:5)
(We are the "Gentiles" in this passage)
In other words,
the purpose of the work of
those sent by Jesus is to make us
obedient.
The purpose of sharing this good news
(that Jesus is the Savior and that
He died on the cross to save us),
is so that
believers would obey the gospel...
the gospel of the cross of Jesus Christ.
Here we get a knowledge of
what a life of believing in Jesus
should look like.
"Believing, Jesus is my Savior" means
living a life of
obedience to the Gospel.
This Gospel is to call people
to obedience of
faith in Jesus Christ.
Obedience of faith is
surrendering to the Gospel,
surrendering to the truth of Christ.
It is obeying the Gospel...
and it's turning away from
obeying this world,
turning away from
the pattern of this world,
turning away the lives of this world...
And instead...
it's turning to the Gospel,
the Gospel of the cross of Jesus Christ.
And it's becoming obedient to faith
in the Gospel.
It's like Galatians 5:24.
It says...
Those who belong to Christ Jesus
have crucified the sinful nature
with its passions
and desires.
Disobedience to the faith is like to say....
"No I'm gonna do this, own my way."
"I don't need God.
I need more money, or more people,
or other gods."
"I can just do it my own way..."
However,
Obedience to the faith is
turning from my own way.
It's turning to Christ,
like...
"I surrender to You, Lord."
"I believe the Gospel."
"Jesus is my savior Christ."
"He is my Lord."
"He has rescued me
from the dominion of darkness
and brought me
into the Kingdom of the Son,
He loves,
in whom
we have redemption,
the forgiveness of sins"
(As it says in Colossians 1:13 and 14).
"Im gonna pray every day."
"Im gonna read the Bible every day."
and
"Im gonna become a follower of Christ..."
like Jesus commanded,
"If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily
and follow me"
(Luke 9:23).
This is what Paul was called to do
for Christian life.
Christian life is all about to
obey the Gospel.
The whole world is in rebellion
against God.
They're doing it their own ways.
Most of mankind has rejected God,
when the most normal and natural thing
should be to believe in God.
It should be to have faith in Him.
But people,
because of their sinfulness,
of their rebellion,
they are rejecting God,
and they're going their own way.
Unless, people repent and turn to God,
they're gonna face the wrath of God
on judgment day
(as the scriptures are very clear about it)
(as you're going to see from the Bible).
Paul is compelled with love
to go and reach mankind
to literally give his life
to reach men and women with the Gospel.
Because he knows that
if people die without Christ,
they're going to spend eternity in hell.
This is the truth
that is revealed in scripture
and Paul understood it.
He knew it.
Paul was willing to give his life.
He was willing to suffer through
incredible hardships
as he did
in order to reach the world
with the Gospel.
Paul wasn't a selfish man.
He could have just lived a selfish life for himself
gotten comfortable made lots of money
but instead he gave his life to reach
as many people as he could
with the Gospel of Jesus Christ
because he understood that
without Christ people are lost
for all eternity.
People are under a deception
thinking that they are fun
and that they are okay without God...
But actually that is a lie.
Everyone needs Christ.
Everyone is lost without Christ.
And every single person needs
to turn to God,
and believe the Gospel,
and come into the grace of God,
and receive the righteousness of God...
And this can only come through
having faith in Jesus.
Paul understood this
very clearly.
He was compelled by love
to preach this Gospel
all over the world.
Let's read the verse together and pray.
Through him and for his name's sake,
we received grace
and apostleship
to call people from among all the Gentiles
to the obedience
that comes from faith.
6. closing prayer.
The purpose of our faith life is to "obey" the gospel.
There are two ways to obey.
One is to believe with your heart and confess with your mouth.
The other is through self-denial and self-crucifixion.
Let us pray.
Lord.
We praise you for saving us in Jesus Christ.
Now, according to your Word, I want to live a life of obedience to the gospel.
Lord, don't let me go my own way.
Instead, help me to follow your way, to live in obedience to the gospel.
Oh Lord, let me have faith in Jesus, and obey Him.
Help me to deny myself, take up my cross, and become a follower of Jesus.
pray in Jesus' name.
Amen.

Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.
