4. 교회의 원형은 에덴에서 시작된다 The Model of the Church Begins in Eden.

1. 하나님의 형상대로 지어져 하나로 연합된 교회 The Church Created in God's Image, United as One

아담이 하나님의 형상으로 지음 받았다는 말은 하나님을 나타내는 존재라는 말이다. 만물의 주인이신 하나님이 아담에게 에덴 동산을 맡기신 것은 만물의 중심이 되는 에덴을 통치할 사명을 주셨다는 것이다. 아담의 통치를 받는 만물은 하나님을 대하듯 아담에게 순종하였다. 

Adam being made in the image of God means that he is a representation of God. The fact that the Lord of all creation, God Himself, entrusted Adam with the Garden of Eden was a mission to rule the center of creation, Eden. All creation, under Adam’s rule, obeyed him as they would obey God.

아담이 에덴을 다스릴 자격과 권위는 아담 스스로에게 있는 것이 아니라 명령하신 하나님에게 있었다. 하나님의 형상을 가진 아담은 하나님의 자격과 이름으로 에덴을 통치하는 것이다. 이는 아담 안에 하나님이 계시다는 것을 말해 주고 있다. 

The qualification and authority to rule Eden did not rest with Adam himself, but with the God who commanded him. Adam, bearing the image of God, ruled Eden in God’s authority and name. This indicates that God was present within Adam.

하나님은 아담을 통해서 자신을 나타내셨고, 아담은 하나님에 대한 온전한 순종으로 하나님을 드러내었다. 그리고 만물은 아담에게 순종하여 하나님께 영광이 되었다. 에덴에서 아담은 하나님과 완전히 연합되어 그의 영광을 나타내는 존재였다. 

God revealed Himself through Adam, and Adam displayed God to the world by his complete obedience. In turn, all creation obeyed Adam, bringing glory to God. In Eden, Adam was united with God and manifested His glory.

예수 그리스도는 교회의 머리가 되시고, 교회를 자신의 몸이 되게 하셨다. 에덴에서 하나님이 아담을 지으셨듯이, 하나님은 아들 예수 그리스도 안에서 교회를 한 생명, 한 몸으로 지으셨다. 그러므로 교회는 예수님의 몸으로 머리이신 주님께 순종하며 세상을 통치하여야 한다. 교회 자체를 드러내는 것이 아니고, 교회의 머리이며 주인이신 예수 그리스도를 자랑하는 것이다. 그럴 때 세상은 교회를 통해 예수 그리스도의 구원과 하나님의 사랑을 보게 된다.

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, and He made the Church His Body. Just as God created Adam in Eden, He has created the Church in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, as one life, one body. Therefore, the Church must obey the Lord, the Head of the Church, and govern the world. The Church is not meant to showcase itself, but to boast in Jesus Christ, the Head and Lord of the Church. In doing so, the world will see through the Church the salvation of Jesus Christ and the love of God.

Genesis 1:25–28

아담이 존귀한 이유는 하나님의 형상으로 지어져 에덴에서 만물을 다스리며 하나님을 드러냈기 때문이다. 만물은 아담을 통해 하나님을 보았고, 하나님과 하나로 연합된 존귀한 존재를 보게 되었다. 죄인이었던 우리는 예수 그리스도의 복음을 믿음으로 하나님의 형상으로 회복되었다. 처음 창조된 에덴에서 하나님과 하나로 연합된 교회처럼 우리도 그리스도 안에서 세상에 하나님을 드러내는 원형의 교회가 되도록 기도하자. 

The reason Adam was honored is that he was made in the image of God and, in the Garden of Eden, he ruled over creation while revealing God to the world. Through Adam, creation saw God, and through him, the world saw the glory of being united with God. We, once sinners, have been restored to the image of God by believing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Just as the Church, united with God in the Garden of Eden, revealed God to the world, let us pray that we too, in Christ, become the archetypal Church that reveals God to the world. 

예수님이 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으시기 전에 아버지 하나님께 간절히 기도하시면서 ‘그들도 다 하나가 되어 우리 안에 있게 하사 세상으로 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 믿게 하옵소서’ 라고 하셨다. 예수님의 이 기도가 오늘날 우리에게 이루어져 예수님의 한 몸으로 연합되었음을 믿는 은혜를 주시도록 기도하자. 그리하여 삼위 하나님 안에 하나가 된 교회로서 세상에 예수 그리스도를 드러내도록 기도하자.

Before Jesus was crucified, He prayed earnestly to God the Father, saying, "May they also be one in us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me." Let us pray that this prayer of Jesus may be fulfilled in us today, that we may experience the grace of being united as one body in Christ. And as a Church united within the Triune God, let us pray that we may reveal Jesus Christ to the world.

2. 하나님과 사랑의 언약으로 맺어진 교회

The Church Bound by a Covenant of Love with God

하나님이 에덴 동산 중앙에 선악을 알게 하는 나무를 두신 것은 아담을 시험에 넘어지게 하기 위한 것이 아니라 하나님이 아담을 신부처럼 사랑하고 계심을 보여주시는 은혜였다. 아담 또한 하나님을 향한 사랑을 마음껏 표현할 수 있도록 허락하신 놀라운 조치였다.

신랑과 신부가 결혼할 때 약속의 상징인 예물 반지를 서로 주고받듯이, 선악을 알게 하는 나무에 대한 명령은 하나님과 아담 사이에 사랑으로 맺은 약속의 증거이다. 그만큼 하나님에게 아담은 많은 피조물 중에 하나가 아니라 아담을 위해서 만물을 만드실 만큼 사랑하셨다는 것이다. 또한 아담은 자신이 존재하는 근원이 하나님에 의한 것임을 인정하며 하나님만을 사랑하고 기뻐하는 관계 안에서 순종하는 한 몸으로 연합되어 살아가는 것을 보여주었다.

The reason God placed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the center of the Garden of Eden was not to make Adam fall into temptation, but rather to show the grace that God loved Adam like a bride. It was a remarkable gesture that allowed Adam to freely express his love for God.

Just as a bride and groom exchange wedding rings as a symbol of their covenant, the command concerning the tree of the knowledge of good and evil served as a sign of the covenant of love between God and Adam. This shows how much God loved Adam—not as just one among many creations, but as one for whom God created the entire world. Adam, recognizing that his very existence came from God, lived in union with God, obeying in a relationship where he loved and rejoiced in God alone.

사랑과 기쁨의 교제가 가능하려면 서로 동일한 존재여야 한다. 거룩하신 하나님과 사랑과 기쁨의 교제를 하려면 우리 또한 거룩한 존재여야 한다. 하나님은 창세 전에 그리스도 안에서 우리를 거룩하고 흠이 없는 자로 은혜의 영광을 찬송하도록 택하셨다. 에덴에서 아담이 ‘선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매를 먹지 말라’ 하신 명령에 하나님을 사랑하여 순종했던 것처럼, 우리가 세상에 있지만 그리스도 안에서 하나님의 모든 말씀을 기쁘게 순종하는 교회가 되도록 기도하자.

For fellowship of love and joy to be possible, there must be unity between the two parties. In order to have fellowship of love and joy with the holy God, we too must be holy. Before the foundation of the world, God chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless, so that we would praise the glory of His grace. Just as Adam in Eden obeyed God's command, "You shall not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" out of love for God, let us pray that we, though in this world, will be a church that joyfully obeys all of God's Word in Christ.

하나님께서 그의 형상대로 만든 아담과 사랑의 약속을 맺듯이 예수 그리스도와 이 땅의 교회가 십자가 복음으로 하나가 되게 하셨다. 주님의 몸된 교회들에 하나님의 모든 지혜와 총명을 넘치게 하사 그 뜻의 비밀을 성경을 통하여 알려 주시도록 기도하자.

Just as God made Adam in His image and entered into a covenant of love with him, God has made the church on earth one with Jesus Christ through the Gospel of the Cross. Let us pray that God would richly pour out all His wisdom and understanding upon the body of Christ, and reveal the mysteries of His will through Scripture.

3. 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 교회 

The Church that Obeys God’s Word

 

하나님과 아담 사이에 사랑의 관계가 드러난 것은 하나님이 아담에게 자유의지를 주셨다는 것이다. 아담을 하나님의 형상대로 만드실 때, 하나님의 명령에 순종할 수도 있고 불순종할 수도 있는 자유의지가 아담 안에 있었다는 말이다. 아담은 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매에 대한 명령에 죽을까 두려워서 순종하는 것이 아니라 하나님을 사랑하기 때문에 자발적으로 순종하게 하셨다. 이렇게 아담은 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 생령이 된(창2:7) 존재이며 하나님과 함께 연합되어 있는 존재였다. 

에덴에서 아담이 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 것은 너무나 자연스러웠고, 이것이 기쁨이며 생명을 누리는 삶이었다. 그러나 하나님 말씀에서 떠나는 불순종은 사망이 되었다. 

또한 하나님의 명령은 아담이 하나님만을 사랑하고 경배함을 표현하는 기쁨의 명령이었다. 그런 아담의 모습을 보시는 하나님은 심히 좋아하셨다. 약속의 말씀에 순종하는 아담을 통하여 하나님의 영광을 풍성히 드러내셨고, 아담은 만물을 다스림으로 하나님을 나타냈다.

The love relationship between God and Adam is revealed through the free will God gave to Adam. When God created Adam in His own image, it means that Adam had the free will to either obey or disobey God’s command. Adam did not obey the command regarding the tree of the knowledge of good and evil out of fear of death, but he obeyed voluntarily because he loved God. In this way, Adam became a living being who obeyed God’s Word (Genesis 2:7) and was united with God.

In Eden, it was natural for Adam to obey God’s Word, and this was the life of joy and life-giving existence. However, disobedience, which comes from turning away from God’s Word, led to death.

Moreover, God’s command was a joyful command expressing Adam’s love and worship of God. God greatly pleased when He saw Adam’s obedience. Through Adam’s obedience to the promised Word, God’s glory was richly revealed, and Adam manifested God by ruling over all creation.

아담에게 주신 하나님의 생명은 하나님의 말씀, 그 명령에 순종하며 살아가는 생명이었다. 하나님의 말씀을 지킬 능력이 있느냐, 없느냐의 문제가 아니라 하나님을 사랑하여 말씀에 순종하는 것이다. 말씀에 순종하는 것 외에 다른 선택이 없다. 우리가 성경책을 가지고 교회를 다니지만 하나님의 말씀을 어떻게 대했는지 돌아보자. 에덴에서 아담과 같이, 출애굽하여 가나안 앞에 섰던 여호수아와 같이 하나님을 사랑하여 말씀에 순종하는 생명으로 회복시켜 주시길 기도하자. 

The life that God gave to Adam was a life of living in obedience to God's Word, His commands. It’s not about whether one has the ability to keep God's Word or not, but rather about loving God and obeying His Word. There is no other choice but to obey His Word. Even though we carry the Bible and attend church, we need to reflect on how we have treated God's Word. Let us pray that, just as Adam in Eden and Joshua standing before Canaan after the Exodus, we would be restored to a life of obeying God's Word with love for Him.

여호수아에게 하나님이 주고자 하신 길은 평탄하며 형통한 것이었다. 그러기에 그렇게 될 수 있는 방법과 능력을 자세하게 안내하셨다. 그것은 ‘이 율법책을 네 입에서 떠나지 말게 하며 주야로 그것을 묵상하여 그 안에 기록된 대로 다 지켜 행하라’는 것이었다. 그리고 하나님이 여호수아와 항상 함께 하시기에 모든 말씀을 지켜 행할 수 있음을 명확하게 알려주셨다. 여호수아의 힘과 지혜가 아닌 함께 하시는 하나님을 사랑하여 의지하는 것으로 가능하게 된 것이다. 이 땅에 두신 예수님과 하나로 연합된 교회로서 우리가 주야로 말씀을 묵상하며 다 지켜 행하여 평탄하고 형통하며 행복하게 살아가도록 기도하자.

The path that God desired to give to Joshua was one of success and prosperity. To ensure this, He gave specific instructions on how to achieve it: "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it." And, because God would always be with Joshua, He made it clear that it was through His presence that Joshua would be able to keep His commands. It was not by Joshua’s own strength or wisdom, but by loving and trusting in the God who was with him. As the Church, united with Christ who has come to this earth, let us pray that we may meditate on God's Word day and night and obey all of it, living a peaceful, prosperous, and happy life.
