1. 노아의 방주를 통해 나타난 교회  The Church Revealed Through Noah’s Ark

구약에는 교회라는 이름으로 칭해지지는 않았다. 그러나 하나님과 생명으로 연합한 사람이며, 그들의 공동체로서 당연히 구약에서도 교회가 가져야 할 생명, 본질, 반응이 어떠해야 하는지를 나타내어 주셨다. 구약 성경에 나타난 교회의 생명은 하나님의 구속 역사 속에서 중요한 역할을 했다. 이는 다양한 유형들을 통해 나타났다. 

창세기 6장과 베드로전서 3:20-21, 히브리서 11:7에 나타나는 방주는 하나님의 구원의 계획을 상징한다. 노아 시대는 하나님을 떠난 사람들의 죄악이 세상에 가득함과 마음으로 생각하는 모든 계획이 항상 악한 때였다. 전인류에 대한 하나님의 심판은 그들의 죄악의 결과이지만, 그 가운데 죄인을 구원하시는 하나님의 은혜와 능력을 방주를 통해 나타내셨다.

죄악으로 멸망 받아야만 하는 심판의 한 복판에서 구원을 받는 유일한 길은 하나님의 약속을 믿고 방주 안으로 들어가는 것이다. 그래서 방주를 통한 구원은 궁극적으로 예수 그리스도를 통한 구속의 그림자요, 신약 교회의 모습을 반영한다. 

죄인들에게 생명을 허락하신 유일한 길은 복음이 되어 주신 예수 그리스도이다. 이 복음의 생명을 가진 곳이 바로 교회이다. 교회는 예수 그리스도 안에서 하나님의 약속을 믿고 순종하는 주님의 몸이다.

In the Old Testament, the term 'church' was not used. However, God revealed through His people and their community, united with Him by life, what the life, essence, and response of the church should be. The life of the church as shown in the Old Testament played a vital role in God's redemptive history. This was manifested through various types.

The ark, as shown in Genesis 6, 1 Peter 3:20-21, and Hebrews 11:7, symbolizes God's plan of salvation. The time of Noah was one where sin had filled the world, and all the plans of mankind were evil. God's judgment upon all humanity was the result of their sinfulness, but through the ark, God revealed His grace and power to save sinners.

In the midst of judgment, the only way to be saved was to believe in God's promise and enter the ark. Thus, salvation through the ark is ultimately a shadow of redemption through Jesus Christ, reflecting the image of the New Testament church.

The only way that life is granted to sinners is through the Gospel, which is Jesus Christ. The place where this life of the Gospel exists is the church. The church is the body of Christ, where God's promise is believed and obeyed in Jesus Christ.

(창세기 6:5-9) 5 여호와께서 사람의 죄악이 세상에 가득함과 그의 마음으로 생각하는 모든 계획이 항상 악할 뿐임을 보시고 6 땅 위에 사람 지으셨음을 한탄하사 마음에 근심하시고 7 이르시되 내가 창조한 사람을 내가 지면에서 쓸어버리되 사람으로부터 가축과 기는 것과 공중의 새까지 그리하리니 이는 내가 그것들을 지었음을 한탄함이니라 하시니라 8 그러나 노아는 여호와께 은혜를 입었더라 9 이것이 노아의 족보니라 노아는 의인이요 당대에 완전한 자라 그는 하나님과 동행하였으며

(Genesis 6:5-9)  
5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.  
6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.  
7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”  
8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.  
9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

(베드로전서 3:20-21) 20 그들은 전에 노아의 날 방주를 준비할 동안 하나님이 오래 참고 기다리실 때에 복종하지 아니하던 자들이라 방주에서 물로 말미암아 구원을 얻은 자가 몇 명뿐이니 겨우 여덟 명이라 21 물은 예수 그리스도께서 부활하심으로 말미암아 이제 너희를 구원하는 표니 곧 세례라 이는 육체의 더러운 것을 제하여 버림이 아니요 하나님을 향한 선한 양심의 간구니라

20 To those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,  
21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Let us now reflect on these Scriptures and share what the Holy Spirit has revealed to us through this meditation.

 

 

B. 이제 말씀이 결론이 되도록 기도하겠습니다

Let us now respond in prayer as God’s Word leads us.

전인류에 대한 심판의 때에 노아의 가정이 구원받을 수 있었던 것은 하나님의 약속을 경외함으로 믿었기 때문이다. 하나님에 대한 반역이 더 극심하게 나타나고 있는 이 시대에 하나님을 경외하며 성경을 정확하게 알고 분명히 믿어 확신 가운데 살아가도록 기도하자.

Noah's family was saved during the time of judgment on all of humanity because they feared and believed in God's promise. In a time when rebellion against God is growing more severe, let us pray that we may fear the Lord, accurately understand His Word, and live with firm conviction.

홍수의 심판 속에 살아남을 유일한 길은 하나님이 말씀대로 만들어 주신 방주로 들어가는 것이었다. 온 세상의 죄인들이 구원을 받는 유일한 길은 오직 하나님의 말씀이신 예수 그리스도를 믿어 그 안에 거하는 것이다. 이제 우리가 심판과 동시에 구원이 선포되는 그리스도의 십자가로 나아가 방주이신 주님과 함께 구원을 받아 세상에 방주와 같은 교회로 살도록 기도하자.

The only way to survive the judgment of the flood was to enter the ark that God had commanded to be built according to His Word. The only way for sinners in the world to be saved is to believe in Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and dwell in Him. Now, let us pray that we may approach the cross of Christ, where judgment and salvation are proclaimed, and be saved with the Lord, who is our ark, living as a church in the world like the ark.

2. 아브라함을 통해 나타난 장막교회 The Tent Church Revealed through Abraham

창세기 12장에서 아브라함은 하나님의 부르심을 따라 약속의 땅으로 나아갔다. 그 여정은 하나님의 말씀을 따라 믿음으로 진행되는 삶이었다. 이때 아브라함은 장막을 치며 살아갔다. 이것은 단순한 거처가 아니었다. 그의 믿음을 보여주는 상징과도 같은 것이었다(히11:9-10). 아브라함은 하나님이 예비하신 영원한 성에 대한 소망을 품고 있었으며, 이는 그가 이 땅에서의 삶을 어떻게 바라보았는지를 잘 보여준다.

2. The Tent Church Revealed through Abraham

In Genesis 12, Abraham followed God's call and set out for the promised land. This journey was a life lived in faith, following God's Word. During this time, Abraham lived in a tent. This was not just a simple dwelling; it symbolized his faith (Hebrews 11:9-10). Abraham had hope in the eternal city that God had prepared, which demonstrates how he viewed his life on earth.

이에 대해 히브리서에서 말하는 아브라함의 장막은 한 곳에 머물러 고정된 건물이 아니었다. 장막교회는 하나님의 약속의 말씀을 따라 이동하는 믿음의 사람들을 의미한다. 아브라함의 삶은 우리에게 세상에 속하지 않고 영원한 나라의 소망을 바라보는 삶의 본보기를 제시했다. 그는 물질적 안정이나 고정된 거처를 추구하지 않았다. 오히려 하나님이 약속하신 땅을 향해 나아가는 여정을 선택했다. 이러한 선택은 그가 믿음으로 살아갔음을 드러내며, 우리에게도 믿음의 길이 어떤 모습인지 알려준다.

As Hebrews speaks about Abraham's tent, it was not a permanent building in one location. The tent church represents the people of faith who move according to the promises of God's Word. Abraham's life provided an example for us, showing that we should not be bound by the world but should look toward the hope of the eternal kingdom. He did not seek material stability or a fixed dwelling place. Instead, he chose the journey toward the land God had promised. This choice revealed that he lived by faith and shows us what the path of faith should look like.

신약교회의 본질 또한 장막교회의 정신을 이어 받고 있다. 교회는 단순히 건물이나 특정 장소에 국한되지 않는다. 그대신 믿음의 공동체로서 하나님과의 관계를 중심으로 형성된다. 우리는 아브라함처럼 이 땅에서의 삶을 바라보지 않고, 하나님이 예비하신 영원한 성을 소망하며 살아가야 한다. 

The essence of the New Testament church also continues the spirit of the tent church. The church is not simply confined to a building or a specific place. Instead, it is a community of faith formed around a relationship with God. Like Abraham, we must not focus on the life we have here on earth but live with the hope of the eternal city that God has prepared for us.

또한, 장막교회는 우리에게 믿음의 여정을 상기시킨다. 우리는 아브라함의 발자취를 따라 하나님이 주신 약속을 붙잡고 세상에 속하지 않는 삶을 살아가야 한다. 이러한 삶은 하나님의 말씀을 따라가는 믿음의 여정이 될 것이다.

Moreover, the tent church reminds us of the journey of faith. Like Abraham, we must hold onto God's promises and live a life that does not belong to this world. This life will be a journey of faith, following God's Word.

Let us begin by reading and meditating on today’s passage.

(히브리서 11:8-16) 8 믿음으로 아브라함은 부르심을 받았을 때에 순종하여 장래의 유업으로 받을 땅에 나아갈새 갈 바를 알지 못하고 나아갔으며 9 믿음으로 그가 이방의 땅에 있는 것 같이 약속의 땅에 거류하여 동일한 약속을 유업으로 함께 받은 이삭 및 야곱과 더불어 장막에 거하였으니 10 이는 그가 하나님이 계획하시고 지으실 터가 있는 성을 바랐음이라 11 믿음으로 사라 자신도 나이가 많아 단산하였으나 잉태할 수 있는 힘을 얻었으니 이는 약속하신 이를 미쁘신 줄 알았음이라 12 이러므로 죽은 자와 같은 한 사람으로 말미암아 하늘의 허다한 별과 또 해변의 무수한 모래와 같이 많은 후손이 생육하였느니라 13 이 사람들은 다 믿음을 따라 죽었으며 약속을 받지 못하였으되 그것들을 멀리서 보고 환영하며 또 땅에서는 외국인과 나그네임을 증언하였으니 14 그들이 이같이 말하는 것은 자기들이 본향 찾는 자임을 나타냄이라 15 그들이 나온 바 본향을 생각하였더라면 돌아갈 기회가 있었으려니와 16 그들이 이제는 더 나은 본향을 사모하니 곧 하늘에 있는 것이라 이러므로 하나님이 그들의 하나님이라 일컬음 받으심을 부끄러워하지 아니하시고 그들을 위하여 한 성을 예비하셨느니라

8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.  
9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.  
10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.  
11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.  
12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.  
13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.  
14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.  
15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.  
16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.  

 

B. 이제 말씀이 결론이 되도록 기도하겠습니다

하나님은 아브라함을 불러 약속을 믿는 의를 주시는 복을 주셨다. 장래의 유업으로 받을 땅, 자식과 민족, 이뤄질 시기 등을 다 알지 못하고 오직 믿음으로 장막에 거하며 약속의 말씀을 기다렸다. 아브라함과 그 후손들이 함께 거하였던 장막에서의 삶은 하나님의 약속을 믿는 삶의 증거였다. 지금 우리 교회는 아브라함과 같은 동일한 믿음의 의가 되신 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 살아가고 있다. 그런데 우리는 건물의 교회와 내 집을 짓고 얻는 것에 마음을 두고 있었는지를 살펴보고 하나님의 약속을 믿는 삶으로 돌아서도록 기도하자.  

God called Abraham and gave him the blessing of righteousness, which comes from believing in the promise. Though he did not know the land, the descendants, the nations, or the time that would come, he lived in tents by faith, waiting for the fulfillment of God’s promise. The life Abraham and his descendants lived in tents was a testament to their belief in God’s promises. Today, our church lives by the same faith, believing in Jesus Christ, who became the righteousness of faith like Abraham. Yet, we should reflect on whether we have focused our hearts on building churches or homes made by human hands, and we should pray to return to a life of believing in God’s promises.

구약의 아브라함과 믿음의 사람들을 통해 보여주신 장막교회의 본질은 신약의 교회를 통해 나타났고 지금 우리에게도 믿음의 본질이 되어야한다. 그들은 땅에서는 외국인과 나그네 같이 살면서 하늘에 있는 더 나은 본향을 사모하며 구하는 삶을 살았다. 나와 우리 교회가 세상에서 장막교회로 살면서 하나님이 우리의 하나님이라 일컬음 받으심을 부끄러워하지 않으시고 우리를 위하여 예비하신 영원한 성을 향해 믿음으로 전진하도록 기도하자.

The essence of the tent church shown through Abraham and the people of faith in the Old Testament was revealed in the New Testament church and must also become the essence of our faith today. They lived as strangers and pilgrims on earth, longing for a better, heavenly home. Let us pray that, as a church, we live as a tent church in this world, not ashamed that God is called our God, and press on in faith toward the eternal city He has prepared for us.

3. 출애굽 이후 나타난 광야교회

The Wilderness Church Revealed After the Exodus

 

출애굽기 19:6과 고린도전서 10:1-4에서 이스라엘 백성이 애굽에서 해방된 후 그들은 하나님과의 언약 관계를 맺으며 광야에서 새로운 공동체를 형성하게 된다. 이들은 광야에서 하나님을 예배하고, 그분의 말씀을 따르며 살아갔다. 그 과정은 단순한 이동이 아니었다. 하나님과의 깊은 관계를 맺는 믿음의 여정이었다. 그들은 하나님을 신뢰하는 것 외에는 생존이 불가능한 환경인 광야를 만났다. 거기서 40년이나 이스라엘 신앙 공동체가 하나님만 의지하는 생활 방식을 연습했다. 그들의 광야 생활은 믿음을 연단 받는 과정이었다. 

Exodus 19:6 and 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 show that after the Israelites were freed from Egypt, they entered into a covenant relationship with God and formed a new community in the wilderness. They worshiped God in the wilderness, followed His word, and lived according to it. This was not just a physical journey; it was a faith journey to establish a deep relationship with God. They encountered a wilderness where survival was impossible without trusting God. There, for 40 years, the Israelite faith community practiced relying solely on God for survival. Their wilderness life was a process of spiritual refinement.

출애굽 백성들의 광야 여정은 오늘날 신약교회에게 믿음의 연단을 상징한다. 이스라엘 백성은 광야에서 여러 가지 어려움과 시련을 겪었지만, 그 과정 속에서 하나님의 공급을 통해 필요한 모든 것을 제공받았다. 그리스도를 상징하는 만나와 물을 통해 영적 양식을 얻었다. 이는 그리스도가 우리의 생명과 공급자임을 잘 보여준다.

The wilderness journey of the Exodus generation symbolizes the faith training of the New Testament Church. The Israelites faced numerous difficulties and trials in the wilderness, but through God's provision, they received everything they needed. Through the manna and water, which symbolized Christ, they were nourished spiritually. This demonstrates that Christ is our life and provider.

성경은 광야교회를 신약교회와 직접 연결 짓는다. 그들은 현재의 우리와 그리스도 안에서 연합한다. 그들도 우리도 다 함께 믿음의 세례를 거쳤으며, 다 함께 그리스도를 믿는 신앙의 반석으로부터 함께 마신다.

The Bible directly connects the wilderness church to the New Testament Church. They, like us, are united in Christ. Both of us have gone through the baptism of faith and together we drink from the rock of faith, which is Christ.

이러한 세 가지 유형의 교회는 구약에서 교회의 본질을 이해하는데 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 방주교회는 구원의 안전함을, 장막교회는 믿음의 순례를, 광야교회는 하나님과의 언약 관계를 나타낸다. 이들은 모두 신약의 교회로 이어지는 하나님의 구속 계획의 연속선상에 있다.

These three types of churches play an essential role in understanding the nature of the church in the Old Testament. The ark church represents the safety of salvation, the tent church represents the pilgrimage of faith, and the wilderness church represents the covenant relationship with God. All of them are part of God's redemptive plan, which continues into the New Testament Church.

(출애굽기 19:1-6) 1 이스라엘 자손이 애굽 땅을 떠난 지 삼 개월이 되던 날 그들이 시내 광야에 이르니라 2 그들이 르비딤을 떠나 시내 광야에 이르러 그 광야에 장막을 치되 이스라엘이 거기 산 앞에 장막을 치니라 3 모세가 하나님 앞에 올라가니 여호와께서 산에서 그를 불러 말씀하시되 너는 이같이 야곱의 집에 말하고 이스라엘 자손들에게 말하라 4 내가 애굽 사람에게 어떻게 행하였음과 내가 어떻게 독수리 날개로 너희를 업어 내게로 인도하였음을 너희가 보았느니라 5 세계가 다 내게 속하였나니 너희가 내 말을 잘 듣고 내 언약을 지키면 너희는 모든 민족 중에서 내 소유가 되겠고 6 너희가 내게 대하여 제사장 나라가 되며 거룩한 백성이 되리라 너는 이 말을 이스라엘 자손에게 전할지니라

Exodus 19:1-6  
1 On the first day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt, they came to the Desert of Sinai.

400년 동안 노예로 살던 이스라엘이 하나님의 백성이 되어 살아간다는 것이 어떠한 삶인지를 보여준 것이 광야이다. 눈에 보이는 것을 의지하던 자아가 왕노릇 하던 삶은 죽었고, 이제는 하나님만 의지하는 삶으로 살게 하시는 광야로 나아가자. 우리가 예수 그리스도만이 생명과 공급자 되시는 광야에서 교회로서 믿음을 세워 주시도록 기도하자.

The wilderness showed what it means for Israel, who had lived as slaves for 400 years, to live as God's people. The life of depending on what is visible and a life where the self reigned was dead, and now they are called to live a life that depends only on God in the wilderness. Let us pray that, as the church in the wilderness, we would build our faith, trusting in Jesus Christ, the only source of life and provision.

하나님이 교회에게 주신 정체성은 ‘택하신 백성이요 왕 같은 제사장이요 거룩한 나라’이다. 교회가 이 정체성을 회복하여 세상과 구별된 거룩한 믿음의 공동체가 되도록 기도하자. 교회만이 비추어야 할 참 빛이 되신 예수 그리스도를 전파하는 교회가 되도록 기도하자.

The identity that God gave to the church is "a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation." Let us pray that the church would recover this identity and become a holy community of faith, distinct from the world. Let us pray that the church would become the true light to the world, proclaiming Jesus Christ, the true light that the church alone is meant to shine.
