1. 그리스도가 전부가 된 교회 The Church Where Christ Is Everything

요한복음 2장에 성전 청결 사건이 나온다. 성전을 더럽히는 사람들을 예수님은 가만히 두지 않으시고 노끈으로 채찍을 만들어서 다 쫓아내시며 외치셨다. “내 아버지의 집으로 장사하는 집을 만들지 말라”(요2:16). 이 일은 당시 종교 지도자들에게 위협적이었다. 성전에 장사꾼들을 끌어들인 장본인들이 예수님에게 싸움을 걸어왔다. “네가 이런 일을 행하니 무슨 표적을 우리에게 보이겠느냐?”고 논쟁을 시작했다. 다시 말하면 “이런 일을 하는 너는 누구냐?”라는 의미였다. 

이에 예수님은 의미심장한 답을 주셨다. “이 성전을 헐라 내가 사흘 동안에 일으키리라”(요2:19). 당시 그 현장에서는 이해할 수 없는 말씀이었다. 나중에 이 말씀을 깨달은 제자들은 다음과 같이 성경에 썼다. “그러나 예수는 성전 된 자기 육체를 가리켜 말씀하신 것이라”(요2:21). 

In John 2, we see the incident of the cleansing of the temple. Jesus did not tolerate those who were defiling the temple. He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out, shouting, “Do not make my Father’s house a house of trade” (John 2:16). This act was a threat to the religious leaders at the time. The ones who had brought the merchants into the temple were the ones who came to confront Jesus, asking, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” In other words, they were asking, “Who do you think you are to do this?”

In response, Jesus gave a profound answer: “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19). At that time, His words were not understood. Later, the disciples remembered His words and wrote, “But He was speaking about the temple of His body” (John 2:21).

이 일은 교회론적으로 매우 중요하다. 예수님이 자신의 몸을 성전과 동일시하셨고, 제자들은 나중에 그 말씀의 뜻을 깨닫게 되었다. 이후 신약성경에서는 성도의 몸을 “성전”(고전6:19)이라고 동일한 표현으로 부르고 있다. 

예수님의 몸이 곧 성전 교회다. 그분이 자기 몸 된 교회를 우리에게 내어주셨다. 그분의 살과 피를 함께 나눈 제자들에게 예수님은 성령 안에서 교회를 위임하셨다. 이는 주님의 약속대로 성령 안에서 제자화를 통해 땅끝까지 진행될 것이다. 

교회의 존재, 시작, 진행, 그리고 마침까지 모두 예수님이 이루신다. 교회는 예수님이 전부다. 교회의 주체가 예수님이시다. 예수님이 교회를 시작하셨고, 예수님이 교회를 진행하며 완성하실 것이기에 예수님이 곧 교회이다. 이렇게 예수님이 곧 교회이심을 믿고 따르는 교회가 예수교회이다.

"This event is theologically significant. Jesus identified His body with the temple, and later, the disciples came to understand the meaning of His words. In the New Testament, the body of the believer is referred to as the “temple” (1 Corinthians 6:19), using the same expression.

The body of Jesus is the temple, the church. He gave His body, the church, to us. To the disciples, who shared in His body and blood, Jesus entrusted the church in the Holy Spirit. This will continue, according to His promise, through disciple-making and reach the ends of the earth.

The existence, beginning, progress, and completion of the church are all accomplished by Jesus. The church is all about Jesus. Jesus is the subject of the church. He started the church, He is carrying it forward, and He will complete it. Therefore, Jesus is the church. A church that believes and follows that Jesus is the church is the church of Jesus."

John 2:13-21
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.  
14 In the temple courts, He found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.  
15 So He made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.  
16 To those who sold doves He said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning My Father’s house into a market!”  
17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will consume Me.”  
18 The Jews then responded to Him, “What sign can You show us to prove Your authority to do all this?”  
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”  
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and You are going to raise it in three days?”  
21 But the temple He had spoken of was His body.

16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

예수님은 하나님의 성전에서 사람들의 탐욕을 채우기 위해 장사하며 도둑질하는 것에 견딜 수 없으셨다. 하나님을 경외함이 없이 종교 의식과 행사로 드리며 건물과 성전 기물을 신성시하는 유대인들의 거짓을 무너뜨리고 성경대로 약속하신 성전을 선포하셨다. 예수 그리스도가 성전이며, 그의 죽음과 부활로 새롭게 세우실 교회를 말씀하셨다. 우리가 건물의 교회에서 예배 의식을 잘 치루고 봉사했다는 것에 위안을 받고, 실제 생활에서 예수님이 주인 되시지 않는다면 아버지의 집을 장사하는 집으로 만드는 것과 동일한 것이다. 우리의 심령에서 강도를 내쫓아 주시도록 기도하자. 

Jesus could not tolerate the greed and deceit happening in the temple, where people were making a profit and robbing others. He exposed the falsehood of the Jews who were offering religious rituals and ceremonies without reverence for God, and who sanctified the building and temple utensils. Jesus declared the temple promised in Scripture, which was Himself. Through His death and resurrection, He proclaimed the church that He would establish. If we are comforted by the fact that we have performed religious rituals and served in the church building, but in our daily lives, Jesus is not the Lord, then we are turning the Father's house into a den of thieves. Let us pray for Jesus to drive out the thieves from our hearts.

 

교회는 예수님이 전부이며, 교회의 머리와 주체가 예수님이시다. 예수님이 곧 교회이심을 믿고 따르는 내가 예수교회임을 믿음으로 선포하자. 나의 몸과 영혼, 삶 전부가 하나님의 성전이며 성령이 거하시는 예수교회인 것을 기억하며 믿음으로 살 것을 결단하자. 성령께서 그리스도의 말씀을 깨달아 믿게 하시고, 예수님의 제자인 예수교회로 끝까지 순종할 수 있도록 도우시길 간구하자. 

The church is all about Jesus, and He is the head and subject of the church. Let us declare by faith that we are Jesus' church, believing that Jesus is the church. Let us remember that our bodies, souls, and all of our lives are God's temple, where the Holy Spirit dwells, and commit to living by faith as Jesus' church. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand and believe the words of Christ and enable us to follow Him obediently as Jesus' disciples until the end.

2. 그리스도가 머리가 된 교회 The Church Whose Head is Christ

교회는 그리스도의 몸이며, 그리스도는 그 몸의 머리이시다. 이 말씀은 교회는 예수 그리스도의 다스림을 받으며 그분의 뜻에 순종하는 존재이며, 머리 되신 그리스도께서 몸인 교회의 구성원들을 인도하신다. 

The Church is the body of Christ, and Christ is the head of that body. This means that the Church is a community that is governed by Jesus Christ and submits to His will, with the head, Christ, guiding and leading the members of the Church.

그리고 교회의 머리가 그리스도라는 말에는 교회가 단순히 사람들의 조직적인 모임이나 구조가 아닌 영적인 연합과 상호 의존 관계를 갖고 있음을 말한다. 우선, 예수님의 몸인 교회는 그리스도 안에서 함께 성장해 가는 공동체이다. 에베소서 4:15은 "사랑 안에서 진리를 말하며, 모든 일에 그에게까지 자라난다"고 말씀하고 있다. 예수교회는 각 지체가 그리스도의 머리 아래에서 자신의 역할을 다하며, 서로 사랑하는 관계 안에서 자라난다.

Furthermore, when we say that Christ is the head of the Church, it signifies that the Church is not merely an organizational meeting of people or a structure, but rather a spiritual union and interdependent relationship. First, the Church, the body of Christ, is a community that grows together in Christ. Ephesians 4:15 says, "Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ." The Church of Jesus Christ grows as each member fulfills their role under the headship of Christ, in a relationship of love and mutual care.

또한, 그리스도의 머리 역할은 교회의 일치를 이루는 데 필수적이다. 각 지체는 독특한 은사를 가지고 있으며, 그 은사를 통해 교회의 사역에 기여한다. 이러한 다양성 속에서도 그리스도는 교회의 목적과 방향을 통일성 있게 이끌고 가신다. 예수교회는 예수 그리스도의 목적과 방향을 따라 그 안에서 하나로 연합한다. 그 때 예수교회는 세상에 예수 그리스도의 복음과 사랑의 증인으로 존재하게 된다.

Moreover, the role of Christ as the head is essential for the unity of the Church. Each part of the body has unique gifts, and through those gifts, the members contribute to the ministry of the Church. Even within this diversity, Christ leads the Church with unity and direction, ensuring that the purpose and goal of the Church align with His will. The Church of Jesus Christ, unified in Him, exists as a witness to the Gospel and the love of Jesus Christ in the world.

우리는 각 사람마다 예수 그리스도를 믿어 구원을 받아 그리스도의 몸인 성도 곧 예수교회가 되었다. 하나님이 지혜와 계시의 영을 주셔서 우리 마음의 눈을 밝히사 복음의 영광, 능력, 축복을 풍성히 알게 하시길 기도하자. 그리하여 하나님께서 우리를 예수 그리스도의 몸으로 연합하게 해주신 은혜에 감사하며 찬양하자.

We have all been saved by believing in Jesus Christ, and through that, we have become members of the body of Christ, the Church of Jesus. Let us pray that God, who gives the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, will enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we may richly understand the glory, power, and blessings of the Gospel. Let us give thanks and praise for the grace God has given us, uniting us as the body of Jesus Christ.

예수 그리스도가 십자가에 죽고 부활하신 능력이 예수교회에게 다 이루어져 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살리셔서 하늘에 자기의 오른편에 앉히셨다. 만물은 예수님의 발 아래에 복종하며, 예수님은 만물을 충만하게 하신다. 이 일을 자신의 몸인 예수교회를 통해서 만물 가운데 역사하심을 믿음으로 세상에서 예수 그리스도의 증인이 되도록 기도하자.

The power of Jesus Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection has been fully realized in the Church of Jesus, bringing us back to life from the dead and seating us at His right hand in the heavenly places. All things are subjected to Jesus' feet, and He fills all things. Let us pray that we, as the body of Christ, will be witnesses of Jesus Christ in the world, believing that He works through His body, the Church, in all things.

3. 그리스도를 따라가는 교회 The Church That Follows Christ

예수 그리스도는 교회의 주체이자 머리이시다. 따라서 교회는 마치 몸의 모든 지체가 머리의 명령을 따르는 것처럼, 예수교회는 오직 그분을 따른다. 만약 머리를 따르지 않는 지체가 있다면, 그 지체는 몸 전체를 병들게 하는 대상이 될 수밖에 없다. 교회는 모든 지체가 예수님을 중심으로 하나되어 함께 움직이는 공동체이다. 

Jesus Christ is both the subject and the head of the Church. Therefore, just as all parts of the body follow the commands of the head, the Church of Jesus follows Him alone. If any part of the body does not follow the head, that part will inevitably cause the whole body to become diseased. The Church is a community where all parts are united around Jesus and move together as one.

우리는 이를 예수님의 공생애에서 확인할 수 있다. 예컨데, 예수님은 제자들에게 “교회를 세우라”고 하신 적이 없다. 그 대신 “따라오라” “가서 제자 삼으라”고 말씀하셨다. 그런데 우리는 “따라오라”는 명령에 순종하기 보다 “사람을 낚는 어부”가 되려고 한다. 혹은 “가서 제자 삼기” 보다 “교회 건물이나 제도 만들기”에 전념한다. 예수님의 말씀은 분명했다. “그분을 따를 때 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라”고 하셨다(마4:19). 사람 낚는 일은 내가 할 수 있는 수준이 아니다. 예수님이 해 주시는 일이다. 여기서 우리의 임무는 예수님을 따르는 것이다.

We can confirm this in the life of Jesus during His earthly ministry. For example, Jesus never said to His disciples, "Build the Church." Instead, He said, "Follow Me" and "Go and make disciples." However, we often focus more on becoming "fishers of men" rather than simply following Jesus. We may also get caught up in "building church buildings or systems" rather than focusing on the command to "make disciples." Jesus' words were clear: "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). The work of catching people is not something we can do on our own; it is something Jesus does through us. Our task is simply to follow Him.

예수교회는 예수님만 따른다. 그분이 하신 말씀대로 순종한다. 예수교회가 헌신해야 하는 일은 예수님을 따르는 일이다. 그러면 우리를 “사람을 낚는 어부”로 변화시키는 일은 예수님이 해 주실 것이다. 교회를 세우는 일도 마찬가지다. 말씀은 분명하다. 교회는 예수님께서 직접 세우신다(마16:18). 예수교회는 그리스도를 믿고 따를 뿐이다.

The Church of Jesus follows only Him. It obeys His words and is devoted to following Him. The Church's mission is to follow Jesus. Then, Jesus will transform us into "fishers of men." The work of building the Church is also His to do. The message is clear: Jesus Himself builds the Church (Matthew 16:18). The Church of Jesus simply believes in and follows Christ.

세상의 유행이나 흐름을 따라가는 교회가 아니라 생명 주러 오신 예수 그리스도를 따라가는 교회가 되도록 기도하자. 자기 십자가를 지고 주님을 따른다는 것은 순종함으로 예수님의 십자가로 나아간다는 것이다. 온전히 순종하는 삶을 사는 그리스도인들이 다른 것은 잃을지라도 예수 생명을 목숨 걸고 지키는 예수교회가 되도록 기도하자. 

Let us pray that we may be a church that follows Jesus Christ, who came to give life, not a church that follows the trends and flow of the world. To take up our cross and follow Jesus means to approach His cross in obedience. Let us pray that Christians who live obediently, even if they lose everything else, will become a Jesus Church that defends Jesus' life with all their strength.

교회가 세상에 속해 있지만 결코 세상과 섞여 사는 것이 아니다. 자신을 더럽히지 않고 의의 옷을 입고 어린 양이 어디로 인도하든지 따라갈 것을 고백하는 결단이 필요하다. 이 시대의 예수교회로서 세상과 타협하지 않고 속량함을 받아 어린 양 되신 예수 그리스도께 속한 순결하고 정결한 교회로 세상을 이기도록 기도하자.

The church is in the world but is never to be mixed with the world. We must make a decision to wear the garments of righteousness, not defiling ourselves, and follow the Lamb wherever He leads. Let us pray that as Jesus’ church in this generation, we will not compromise with the world, but instead, being redeemed, we will be a pure and holy church belonging to the Lamb, overcoming the world.
